Phase 4 – A sense of normality

Phase-4 hasn’t been defined, but has been alluded to in some media. It is broadly believed that this will be a step closer to “normality”, but with some restrictions in place. It is likely that strict rules will remain in place relating to cleanliness and hygiene.

To be absolutely clear, at the time of writing, we don’t know what phase-4 will comprise.  We don’t know if there even will be a phase-4! That said, it has been alluded to by the press, and there are many signs that point in this direction – such as the chancellor talking about extending furlough until October (handily the date that the press speculated phase-4 would commence).

It might be that phases 3 & 4 become one, and it would be great if they did.  But let’s assume they don’t.

For now, we’ll work on the assumption that phase-4 will see a re-allowance of larger group training. In all likelihood greater rules will remain in place surrounding attendance recording, cleanliness and other aspects of running a facility.

Whilst, theoretically, all of your members are permitted to return at this stage, remember there will still be some adversely affected by the trauma and emotion of the virus. They will be anxious, and they will need continued assurance that it is safe to return. Equally importantly, they will need looking-after during the period that they remain absent.

The ways in which Quoox can help you, your business and your members during this time are very similar to those from phase-3. Here are a few areas to which you should pay attention:

  • Cleanliness – Keep on top of your cleaning and record keeping. Be prepared to evidence your cleaning regime to a health & safety inspector at any point.
  • Attendance recording – Roll-call is a staple of good facility management anyway, and you should continue to use Quoox roll-call to help you with this. It is likely that self check-in kiosks will remain out-of-bounds for the time-being.
  • On-demand video training – Maintain your on-demand offering, although you may choose to pivot to charging extra for some of these. However, with a focus towards a hybrid of in-person and online training, all members having access to a modicum of online workouts is a good practice.
  • Consider maintaining at least a few live video stream sessions a week for those who remain anxious about returning.  Do not make these members feel uncomfortable or outsiders because of their anxieties. Take care of them, and nurture them until the point that they are comfortable to return.
  • Continue to demonstrate that you haven’t been sitting idly by during lockdown. Through Quoox you have a wealth of new features and member engagement tools. Use them to your advantage.
  • Keep doing what you’ve been doing… This includes providing your members with value-add collateral and library assets.
  • Emerging from lockdown there will be a mix of excitement; relief; trepidation; and anxiety.  Some people will be demoralised if they have put on weight or lost form during lockdown. Everyone is in the same boat, and they should be reminded as such. Use Personal Bests and Insights to help show them how quickly they return-to-form.
  • Keep Campaigning! Get your adverts out, and make sure people see everything that you have to offer. Facilities who build and trust and are viewed as safe will win. Sadly not all facilities will have made it through, and there will likely be people needing to find new training facilities. Be their facility of choice.
