Our commitment to a healthy future
According to analysis of University of Maryland data by WRI, more than 12 million hectares of tree cover in the tropics was lost in 2020 alone. Most alarmingly, that included 4.2 million hectares of previously undisturbed primary tropical forests.

This loss represents a crisis for climate stability and biodiversity conservation, as well as a humanitarian disaster and lost economic opportunity. Carbon dioxide levels today are higher than at any point in at least the past 800,000 years.

In the UK, the average person’s lifetime CO2 footprint is 520 tonnes. As a SaaS (Software as a Service) provider, Quoox hosts its servers in multiple data centres across the globe. Each new customer that Quoox subscribes brings an increased usage of server resources and, thus, a increase in CO2 emissions.

Mirroring our mission to deliver gyms & studios a solution for both now and the future, Quoox commits to plant one Giant Sequoia tree for every customer

To deliver on this promise, Quoox has partnered with "One Life One Tree - The Sequoia Project".

Introducing the Giant Sequoia
The Giant Sequoia is the world's largest tree species, as well as the fastest growing conifer.
The Giant Sequoia
Famous Sequoias have grown up to 300 feet tall, 36 feet wide, with volumes over 1400 m3, and are known to be as much as 3500 years old.

The world’s largest tree is General Sherman in California, a Giant Sequoia with volume of 1486 cubic metres. It is estimated that General Sherman, with a carbon weight of 392 tonnes, has in fact removed 1439 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere!

Each Sequoia is planted in a 100 m2 plot (about the size of a 2 bed apartment) together with three native UK species to promote biodiversity. The area is initially protected from wildlife by fencing or tree guards which are later removed, with forestry experts overseeing each grove to promote maximum growth.

The UK Forestry Commission quotes that within 100 years a woodland planted today would sequest 400-600 tonnes of CO2 per hectare. A Sequoia grove where the trees were growing in line with existing UK specimens, where each tree could expect to reach a 100 year volume of 57 tonnes, would sequest over 6000 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere between 108 trees. That is 10x more carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere.

One Gym, One Tree
For every new gym/studio that subscribes to Quoox, we plant a Giant Sequoia in their name, commissioned annually. The Quoox Sequoia grove is in Abergavenny, Wales.

Once planted, our clients receive:

  • A laser engraved slate certificate confirming the planting of a tree in their name, along with the exact latitude and longitude co-ordinates for the tree.
  • A welcome pack, including a Spruce Tree Seed pencil, which the client may grow at home or at their facility.
